Som Tum.

My favourite dish in Asia, papaya salads!

The Thai and Laos versions differ a little, but basically contain shaved papaya, baby eggplant, tomato, fish sauce, lemon or lime juice, cabbage, shrimps or baby crabs, peanuts and a whole lot of chilli (small and red and very hot). Best served with sticky rice, grilled chicken and a Beerlao or Chang!

Birthday Life

   Izakaya Den - Melbourne
Continuing the tradition of Japanese for my birthday celebrations - this year in Melbourne triumphed with a delectable course of dishes of tuna tataki, kingfish sashimi and ox tounge, to name a few. The vegetarians gave up on life and ate everything that was put down, and then we washed it all down with endless bottles (beakers?) of plum wine, cold and warm sake. Up there with the best I must say.

Pieces of Melbourne.

Staring out the window (a very nice window frame, wooden blinds, peeling paint and a concrete sill), meeting my neighbour Phil, from the level below / drinking Jasmine tea / eating a quinoa + vegetable + nectarine + peanut salad.
Melbourne is a nice place.
