New York Summer.

Oh my, how effortlessly trendy is New York. Very. And New York in the Summer time. Dreamy as. Quite hot though, but lovely.

Map Life

ROAD MAP OF MANHATTAN, NEW YORK
This trusty wee map was so good to me when I got lost in New York (NB: Always carry a cell phone with relevant numbers in it) that it now hangs on my wall, with super outdated Broadway shows as advertisements. Talk about fantastic city planning.

L O V E N Y C

There are lots of reasons to love New York City. I liked the red that link these photos together... they probably dont look like much, but each little corner of Manhattan was a new treat to discover. The peace sign monument is dedicated to John Lennon, in the Strawberry Fields of Central Park, and Im pretty sure Jethro Tull was sitting on the bench in front of it.

Grey Marl

Give a little love to NYC. It was birthdays, sex and sleep.

I love University sweaters. I probably would have got one if mine had a better name. NYU sounds a lot more credible.

Pencil and Lead

Happiness is a warm gun
I loved this sketch I stumbled across at MoMA. Unfortunately, I neglected to retain any information about the artist..  I shall endeavor to find it one day.

Blurred photo because flashes were not allowed, by me

Surrounded by horses, horses, horses

I love Patti Smith and I was very excited when I went to MoMA to discover an exhibition dedicated to popular American music. She truly is an artist - not just a musician (the Godmother of Punk?) but a woman who lives her life through creating and collaborating and sharing her passion with an audience.   There was also a great collage of John Lennon decked out in New York paraphernalia.

Honey, I rearranged the collection...

Each of these drawings are of the same apartment, in different mediums...

They read as follows...
1 - Honey, I rearranged the collection according to two categories: Nice and Not Nice. 2000 (Pencil on printed paper)
2 - Honey, I rearranged the collection as an excuse to stay away from CHELSEA. It scares me. 2001 (Pressure-sensitive labels and pencil on printed paper)
3 -  Honey, I rearranged the collection to see if we got our moneys worth. 2001 (Transfer type, coloured pencil, and pencil on printed paper)
4 - Honey, I rearranged the collection because I think its fun. Remember the Fun Gallery in the East Village? Fun counts! 2001 (Pressure-sensitive labels and pencil on printed paper)
5 - Honey, I rearranged the collection because sometimes artists bug me. One came to the door today completely unannounced. 2000 (Pastel, crayon, and pencil on printed paper)
6 - Honey, I rearranged the collection using only artists with three letters in their last name. 2000 (Pastel and pencil on printed paper)
7 - Honey, I rearranged the collection because I miss NY, Paris, Rome, Berlin, London, Milan and the Cape. 2000 (Pastel and pencil on printed paper)
8 - Honey, I rearranged the collection with artists who knew each other, but were different ages; artists who knew each other but worked differently; and artists who were influenced by artists who were soon forgotten. 2001 (Pressure-sensitive labels, transfer type, and pencil on printed paper)
9 - Honey, I rearranged the collection using artists whom we know virtually nothing about. 2001 (Pencil on printed paper)
This was a piece I quite liked at MoMA in New York
Allen Ruppersberg, American, b. 1944

I like the seemingly irrelevant nature of commenting on the rearrangement of the collection to his partner. I also like how he uses a lot of text and bold slogans in his works

Jewellery To Run Away With

Pamela Love is a jewellery designer from New York
She makes beautifully crafted dark and romantic pieces inspired by nature, the outdoors, magic, spirituality and exotic tribal influences
I would very much like it all really - especially the two bear head ring and the beaded/studded cuff... I could wear them all and dream of running around in the forest wearing hard metal adornment and fur and animal hide, gathering twigs and leaves in a basket weaved of horse hair, to light a fire for a midnight drumming ritual with my forest friends with animal horns... and the moon would make my hair grow long

Grid Life

I quite liked this piece by German artist Charline von Heyl at the Museum of Modern Art, New York
Untitled, 2003
Cut and pasted printed paper and ink on fifteen pieces of paper
I especially like how stalker-like this photo is.. I guess they didn't move for a while as I took the photo
