Road Trip.

Road tripping through Australia.
We drove for 13 hours from South Australia (for Laneway festival) back home to Melbourne, Victoria. A long drive, but we got to see the Great Ocean Road and see wild animals and meet nice people in hostels during the journey. Then back to China Town for dumplings. Brilliant.

Black + Plaits + Chiffon

Getting ready to go out. For some reason I felt the need to take a photo of my newly plaited do, because I was so proud that I could plait it by myself! Yay, hair and stuff.

Somebody Loves You

I got some new things today. Cute story - I was on my way home when I heard someone shout out my name - it was Marcus, an old friend from high school. I told him about this Karen Walker necklace I liked, the apple skull oxidized silver one and so he came with me to try it on. On the way there he bought me freshly squeezed juice from my favourite Mediterranean food shop - it was a melon, apple, carrot, pear, lemon and ginger juice, delicious. So I tried on my necklace and we decided it was awesome, then I saw the Herschel bags and decided I definitely needed a backpack for my trip to Adelaide for the Laneway festival next week. So I bought both and we continued our walk down Smith St in 35 degree heat. That was my afternoon. I also drew some postcards to send to friends and bought some organic produce.

Nico & Sparrow.

In the Summer of 2009, my friend Jasmin and I decided to make a clothing line, inspired by her jewelery work with feathers. We called it Nico & Sparrow and here was the first samples of the range. It was a lot of fun to make, we would get together and sketch ideas, we imported 10 metres of black chiffon (the only fabric I think I will ever use with confidence), bunch loads of rooster / duck / pheasant and quinea fowl feathers, metres of satin bias binding and made up tags and care tags, and got sewing in the dreamy Summer of Wellington (in which time I moved flats where I had a bigger working space). We made around ten samples (the only one I have left is the feather shoulder dress) then Jaz got to work getting them on models and photographed, and getting her own label, Jasmin Sparrow, up and running. I then went back to uni to finish off my degree and passed on the project to her and is doing incredibly well now and can see her here http://www.jasminsparrow.co.nz.

Starry.

 Melbourne Lovers.

As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.

Lack of Prints.

Little Konicas first roll of film in Melbourne.
Not the most ideal outcome - the negative got completely destroyed in the camera,
Nevertheless, she had fun.
The images are in fact from a day a friend and I spent in the Carlton gardens, complete with a few window frame shots (my favourite of the structural variety), and of course, some feet shots.
Lesson learnt for next time!

WHEN I SAW YOU LAST, YOU WERE HIGH

There are lots of reasons to love New York City. I liked the red that link these photos together... they probably dont look like much, but each little corner of Manhattan was a new treat to discover. The peace sign monument is dedicated to John Lennon, in the Strawberry Fields of Central Park, and Im pretty sure Jethro Tull was sitting on the bench in front of it.

Catch the Light

Feathers and fur, swaying dream catchers, dim light at dusk, Native American emblems, turquoise stones and wooden beads, wild animals, flowers on hills, dinky old sheds with dull windows, long straw grass and summer, road trips on desert roads, friends and sand, purple and blue hues... all the things that emerge when thinking about an idealistic home town.
